Most of you won’t be aware, but Designs Woodcraft is a business born of my passion for woodworking and creativity, but it wasn’t my first love.

Ten years ago, I could be found in a busy restaurant kitchen barking orders at my team and working crazy hours. In the little spare time I had, woodworking was really a hobby and one that quickly got way out of control.
As I mentioned, my first love was for food and had been for a number of years. As I progressed, I lost the ability (or maybe the desire) to keep creating and woodcraft was my way of doing this – not from a book or YouTube, but self-taught, learning with my hands, trying, failing, burning and starting again.
Like most who start a hobby, I started off simple, grabbed a saw and a sander and thought “I can do that”…wasn’t far from the truth in the early days.
Ten years on, here we are. Building a business is not an easy process. What they don’t tell you is that it can cause stress, anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people. But the flip side is it’s ours, it’s our family business and it’s rewarding. We get to do what we enjoy, with a great selection of customers both commercial and residential.
So if you have a passion for something and want to make it your business; understand the pressures, make a balanced decision, then surround yourself with amazing people and go for it!
